Veterans Benefits

A recent study commissioned by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs suggested that up to 75% of eligible Veterans and 83% of eligible widows are not participating in this program. VA officials consider the Aide and Attendance pension one of the department’s most underutilized offerings.*

The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs provides many benefits to military personnel and their families. At Long Term Care Consulting, Inc., we focus on the non-service connected pension benefit, most often combined with an “Aid & Attendance” benefit.

This is a federal program available to certain wartime veterans and surviving spouses who meet the
eligibility criteria set forth by the VA. According to the VA, hundreds of thousands of veterans and spouses who qualify for this pension benefit are NOT collecting it!  Stories of unclaimed Veterans Benefits have even received national news coverage. learn more

The pension benefit is a needs program that is based on income. Most veterans wrongly assume that their income or assets exceeds the limit set forth by the VA. Many medical expenses can be deducted from  income including the cost of a home health aide, adult day care, or an assisted living facility. Veterans or widows can be reimbursed for these out of pocket expenses.

The monthly pension can pay a veteran up to $2300 per month, and a widow (surviving spouse) can receive up to $1478 per month!

The time to process and receive the Aid & Attendance benefit can take from 4-7 months, but the benefits are retroactive. Click
